Let's code visual studio community 2015

Let's take on a quest of developing apps for Windows.

I started by searching for books. I found an article that suggested to use a free IDE called visual studio community 2015. Link to article.

Then I found a tutorial video on YouTube. I recommend starting with part two here (at 9min 45sec). Of course install the IDE first. Program was generated from a template as seen at 55 seconds in that video.

From the start screen inside IDE I discovered some sample code. Use this link to get there. BasicInput caught my attention. After downloading the master ZIP file, extracting and opening the .SLN file, IDE told me to install additional content to work with UWP (universal windows platform). The IDE is about 6gb large, no idea how large the UWP is. I'm waiting for the download.

I created website https://livingwater.visualstudio.com in the setup wizard of IDE. Maybe it has something of use there,

Aha! A little bit more hands-on in this video (at 13:05). Starting interface setup ends at 25:05. In terms of MVC (model view controller), model and view are done in the 1st hour. Here starts program logic wiring (connecting UI with functionality coding).

My Windows 10 experience

Don't get Windows 10. It's unresponsive. A lot of actions are wait and see. For example clicking wireless button from start menu (in lower right corner near clock) does nothing sometime, especially when Windows 10 is seemingly busy with something. I don't know any way to find out with what.
Same thing happens with install shield wizard, opening programs like nvidia control panel.
I've experienced start menu not opening when clicking on the windows button in lower left.

In short, wait for Windows 10 patches. If possible don't use this OS on your computer.

What to watch out for

Winter games done quick starting on January 3rd, 2016. Check them out here.

Watch Dreamhack on twitch. Playing Legacy of the Void Starcraft 2. If the stream isn't live, then check out team liquid calendar here or WCS schedule here.

Using GIMP

A good way to increase productivity is to learn the keyboard shortcuts or hotkeys of your favourite program.
Here's a link to GIMP hotkeys. In particular I learned about D and X to reset colours to default and swap foreground and background colours.
Discover here what can be achieved with GIMP.

Gimp is an image editor. It's available for free on GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more. Here's a link to their web-site.

Blog post links

Organized from recent to first, here's links to all the posts for quicker navigation. I think blogspot makes it tedious to navigate the archive.
Enjoy!

YouTube Centre script

Hello!

I stumbled across Tampermonkey for Chrome web browser while searching for an answer to a question concerning ads on Youtube.

Start by reading a certain reddit post. Install tampermonkey for your browser. Add a script "youtube centre" to tampermonkey. Apparently this script loads youtube videos to reduce buffering. I have no idea if this will be helpful but it seems like it would take up bandwidth. Don't use if data caps apply.
